Family, Stay-Cation Weekend Ideas

This summer is much different than most summers. We have been sheltering from others for a while and travel plans are restricted or canceled. That doesn't mean the summer fun is canceled! These are just a couple of ideas to make your weekends exciting and without a ton of preparation. Feel free to share some of your own ideas in the comments!

Change the Decor!

Check out Target Dollar Spot, the Dollar Tree, or other inexpensive stores to find colorful summer decor for your home. For extra fun, have them put up the decor like window stickers or fake flowers to arrange around the house. You can even have them color and create their own home decorations to save and remember the joys of this time together.

Dance Party!

Turn off the lights and turn on the music! Dance as a family, bring glow sticks a bubble machine, and get dressed up in the wackiest outfits to have the best time!

Movie Night

Pick a movie at the beginning of the week and discuss with your child how you can bring the movie to life?! Make a dinner or snack to pair with the film, turn on the sing-along feature, and hit all the notes! We used to blow up an air mattress and bring all the pillows and blankets out to relax and watch together. Then see the next point!

Camp in the Living Room!

If you brought out an air mattress out for movie night, let your little one camp in the living room. I can remember begging my parents to let me sleep in the living room, just to change things up. You can take this a step further and have a picnic in the living room, or bedroom just to make a change.

Cook or Bake Together!

If you do this already, YAY! If you don't its an easy way to spend time together and create something delicious. Grab a cookbook, or Pinterest, and let your little one pick out something they would like to make. Letting them choose is part of the magic!
